The Evolution of the Company
Morris Skimmers was originally formed by Mr. David Morris after his retirement from a long career as an engineer for British Petroleum. While with BP, he was instrumental in designing the first commercially produced disc skimmer system. Upon moving to Canada, David devoted the rest of his working career to developing the MI series of skimmers.
Perhaps the highlight of his second career was the sale and delivery of over 65 MI-30 units to the Canadian Coast Guard. This sale was consummated after a rigorous engineering and design competition where the Morris Skimmer was evaluated against numerous rival skimmers. Companies from around the World participated in an international contest where performance, utility and value were all considered in the purchase evaluation. Morris won hands down against other disc type designs and weir skimmers.
In 1999, the company was purchased by Peter Lane and Joseph Basil and was adopted into the Applied Fabric family of companies. AFTI was one of Morris' distributors and was determined to keep the design and system alive. Since then, several new designs, including the MI-2H series and the MI-50 have been added to offer additional skimming functionality and capacity range to the already capable group. Controls, engines, powerpacks pumps and even general components have been changed to improve utility, durability and performance while at the same time making the systems more competitive. Today, no other disc skimmer system offers the range and utility of Morris Skimmers International LLC.
